Our last full day at the resort was full of relaxation (and denial that we would have to leave the next day...). We slept in, spent time near the pool, made a new friend, ate a light lunch, and invaded the spa for a 30 minute back and neck massage (despite our disappointment with the Swedish full body massage from earlier in the week).
We were both a little sunburned from our deep sea fishing trip the day before
Our new friend - Willie
Uh...not sure what I'm doing here...
C after her relaxing massage - she wouldn't get up afterwards!
Pool reserved for people at the spa (the near pool was a large jacuzzi)
But I preferred the infinity pool towards the back...
...and it was FREEZING!
Entrance to the spa
After our afternoon spa treatment, we took our time and meandered through the resort. We checked out the local golf course, saw some cool trees (which Carolyn took pictures of, obviously...), and made our way back to the Royal Service pool area.
I don't recall seeing a single person play this course
One of those "cool" trees I referenced earlier...

Ahhh...nothing beats Royal Service
During our trip, Carolyn fell in love with the Bellinis served by the resort staff (it all started with the very first drink provided upon our arrival). While I branched out during our trip, tried the local beer, and had some other mixed drinks, Carolyn wanted little else other than these peach delights. Before we could leave the resort, C wanted to know how the resort bartenders made this special drink. We naturally assumed they must use local, fresh fruit. However, after consulting with our Royal Service bartender, Roberto, we stumbled upon a startling secret...
...made in the USA!
So many choices
Up until this point, we had only taken advantage of the resort restaurants for dinner (especially since they were part of the all inclusive deal!), but we wanted a little more adventure for our last dinner. We asked some of the staff (and some of the other guests) about good local restaurants near the resort. Everybody told us we should go to Mar y Sol, and to get there right before the sunset. I took their advice, made the reservations, and arranged for the free shuttle to transport us to and from the restaurant.
Mar y Sol was located in Playa Flamingo (only 10 minutes north of Playa Conchal)
We got there as the sun began to set
We could not have asked for a better view
Enjoying our last evening in Costa Rica
I got the filet mignon with potatoes au gratin
C ordered the surf 'n' turf
And for dessert - chocolate lava cake for C (of course)
Creme brulee for myself
Our wine choice for the evening (Chilean and very tasty)
As we waited for our shuttle after dinner, we made friends with Petey the Parrot
I tried to get him to talk, but he wouldn't
"You know I don't speak Spanish...in English please!"
After our fabulous dinner, we ventured back to the resort for a late night swim. We were greeted by swans, entertained by a raccoon, and horrified by a heavily inebriated guest* before the end of our night.

*Not the drunk girl...
While we don't have any pictures of the really drunk girl at the swim-up bar, it was quite terrifying. She could barely sit up, and I had to lift her head out of the water because the guy hitting on her was too drunk to notice (he also couldn't remember her name or where she was from...). I had the bartender call for help and arranged for her to be carried back up to her room. Meanwhile, the guy at the bar was cut-off from any more drinks and he made quite a scene voicing his displeasure about it.
Despite having to deal with this strange incident, we still had a nice ending to a fantastic week. We enjoyed a final dance performance by the resort staff before heading back to our room for sleepy time.
Una mas cerveza, por favor!
Buenos noches!
