"Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming..."
Somehow, I was able to get Carolyn out of bed early AGAIN the next morning for our deep sea fishing trip. Since she was able to demand adventure and the zip line, I figured I could demand deep sea fishing. Our charter was out of Tamarindo Beach, which was just a quick 15 minute drive from our resort. We were late getting to the beach because the other couple taking the shuttle with us figured they could take their time...
This would be Carolyn's first deep sea fishing trip, and I couldn't wait to see her reeling in those lines!
Which boat would be ours?
Restaurant by the beach (they made Carolyn pay $1 to use the restroom after our trip)
Don't worry, this wasn't our boat (but it did take us to our boat farther out in the harbor)
Finally on our charter boat and leaving the harbor
The rude couple was on the boat in front of us
Great view of the coastline
Our guide Mikel loved all my Bass Pro stuff and couldn't believe we lived near one
(he told us he orders a ton of his clothes online from Bass Pro - and they take almost a full month to be delivered!)
Thumbs up from C - she enjoyed riding vs. walking/climbing...
Getting the reels ready for some bottom fishing
(we only had to go 7 miles offshore to hit 450 feet)
Mikel was quick with the bait all morning
(he caught his first blue marlin when he was 14)

First bite of the day!
First catch of the day!
Carolyn gets in on the action...
...and ends up with the biggest catch of the day!
More grouper
Mikel tells Carolyn his first experience on a charter boat was with a guy from Orange Beach (small world!)
After we finished the first part of the morning bottom fishing, we set the boat up for some trolling. As we were rigging the poles, a wise old sea turtle came by to visit us.
Crush was 150 years old...
...so there's no telling how old our new friend was.
Mikel let me drive the boat...I guess my boater's license works in Costa Rica...
After trolling for a couple of hours, and chasing some sailfish unsuccessfully, it was time to call it a morning. We ended up with half a dozen of grouper, but we only took two of the fish fillets back to the resort with us. C and I told Mikel to take the rest home with him.
Catch of the day
Mikel working the fillet knife
Circling back towards the harbor
We had to time our final approach...
...so we'd avoid these breakers
Our fillets
Our boat, the Salsa

Back on the beach
After our morning fishing trip, we made our way back to the resort to grab some grub.
Before relaxing after lunch, I called Tri (our awesome butler from 8:00 till 2:00 each day) and arranged for our fish to be taken to one of the resort restaurants. Even though I had to sign a waiver, I was confident our fish would be well prepared and cooked thoroughly.
We spent the rest of the afternoon hanging around the pool and stalking the local iguanas. They were EVERYWHERE!
Sunbathing...
Checking us out...
He acted disinterested...
...but we knew better!
Relaxing by the pool in the cabana
Takin' it easy
We had dinner reservations at Spices, the Asian restaurant in the resort, and we could not wait to taste our freshly caught fish! As always, we took our little shuttle to dinner and enjoyed the breezy ride.
Getting dropped off
SPICES
Ready for our fish
OUR FRESH CATCH!
(they cooked the fish three different ways - and they were all delicious)
Chicken Teryaki
Steaaaak
And finally, our desert!
(it was some sort of fried strawberry ice cream)
After stuffing ourselves during dinner (we ate waaaaay too much), we lazily made our way back to the room. It had been yet another long and exciting day - and we still had one more left! We rested easy knowing that our last full day wouldn't require any offsite excursions and we would be able to relax around the resort.

that fish looks DELISH!
